Shannon Gugerty is a lightweight fighter. Gugerty nearly faced UK TUF veteran Jeff Lawson at UFC 95 before that TUF season was ever thought of. He was injured, however and forced off of the card. He was cut from the UFC after back-to-back losses to Terry Etim and Clay Guida. He is set to replace fellow UFC veteran Marcus Aurelio on extremely short notice for a one-night, $50,000 lightweight tournament for the Shine Fights promotion. He faced undefeated Dennis Bermudez in the opening round of the tournament, losing via unanimous decision. A notable fact about the fight was the takedown attempt by Bermudez at the end of the first round that sent both fighters tumbling through the ropes to the arena floor below.
